Colaship Round Up - Destroyed Weekend Edition.

Andy Keogh gives Swansea’s Gary Monk a hug. Ahhh.

Lots of exciting Coca Cola Championship action to report on from today, not all of it to my liking!

Lets start at Swansea where Wolves were trying to get back to winning ways after defeat during the week. Swansea’s Jason Scotland had other ideas. His double secured a 3-1 win for the Welsh team and Scotland also saw a shot cleared from the line and one come back off the crossbar. Jordi Gomez set Swansea on their way after just 25 secs when he caught Wolves snoozing at the back to nip in and score. Andy Keogh replied on 16 mins before this tie became the Scotland show. Wolves have now relinquished their lead at the top of the table to Bongo FC who beat Q.P.R at St Andrews. A Kevin Phillips goal before the break was enough to win that one and see Bongo top the table with 23 points from their 10 games.

From the top to the bottom. In the weekend’s basement battle, Barnsley stuffed Doncaster Rovers to lift themselves closer to safety. Donny Rovers took the lead through a Brian Stock penalty. Simon Davey must have put a rocket up Barnsley’s arse at half time as they scored 4 times in the second period to leapfrog Donny at the bottom. Oh yeah, and they had ten men.

Lets stay at the bottom. Forest are rooted. Another defeat today at home to Palace. Goals at the start and end of this game did the damage. Ifill at the top after four minutes and ex-scummer Shefki Kuqi secured the points on 84 mins. That’s SIX defeats and a draw for Forest in the last seven games and two wins in a week for Neil Warnock’s men.

Plymouth Argyle just cannot stop winning. Since my lot done em at Home Park a few weeks back they have won four and drawn one. Today they hammered Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 to jump into the play-off spots.

Reading continued their impressive run, beating Burnley 3-1 at the Madejski stadium. That’s 20 goals in the last six games for Steve Coppells goal machines. They have nearly caught the top two and sit third tonight with 20 points from their opening ten games.

Elsewhere Coventry battered Southampton 4-1 with two goals from Jay Tabb, and one a piece from their Leon’s, Best and McKenzie (boooooooo).

Charlton beat Ip..Ip..Ip..them 2-1 at the valley in a game that featured TWO own goals. Cranie and Voltz finding the wrong net. Maybe a swap deal can be arranged?
Charlton 2 Scummers 1. Own goal extravaganza!

Blackpool and Cardiff shared the points in this weeks only draw and both goals came in the last seven minutes of this one, actually a little more. Alan Gow saved the tangerines blushes five minutes into injury time.

Watford beat Preston 2-1 and James Beattie got back to scoring ways at Bramall lane as Sheffield United beat Bristol City 3-0 to climb to fourth. Lots of goals in the Championship today and that leaves just one game to discuss. A result that ruined my day. In fact there is just one word suitable to describe how I feel after Norwich lost 2-1 at home to the ten men of Derby County today..and that word is GUTTED.

I just cannot work out Glenn Roeder. There is a chance that he is turning into Juande Ramos. We have no fit central defenders, except for on loan Tottenham youngster Troy Archibald-Henville. So the lad gets a game right? Wrong. The tall Spurs reserve captain wasn’t even included in the squad as Glenn Roeder decided to play second choice left back Adam Drury alongside right back Elliot Omozusi. Then it should come as no surprise to tell you that Derby took the lead through a Rob Hulse header from a corner. Debutant forward Leroy Lita won a penalty after Derby keeper Roy Carroll was dismissed for bringing down the on-loan hit-man AND newest misfiring striker to wear yellow this season. Sammy Clingan scored from the spot and you would think that we should have gone on against ten men to bury this one right? Nope instead of claiming victory with a winner against a team desperate to leave town clinging to a point, a miscommunication between keeper David Marshall and his temporary center back Drury ended up with Nathan Ellington pushing the ball into a empty net.
On loan striker Leroy Lita and Derby’s Jordan Stewart audition for Grease.

This Norwich team baffles me. When I look at the line-up I genuinely believe this is the best squad we have had for years. Even with key players like Stefanovic and Kennedy missing and the recall of Jonathon Grounds to Middlesbrough affecting the defence, we should still have taken the points today. Hardly the expected result for a team with Leroy Lita and Antoine Sibierski up front eh? And WTF is the Henville-Archibald situation all about? Roeder has called the kid ‘raw’ but at least he is a tall CENTER BACK. If the lad sucks enough to not get a chance when the four center backs in front of him are out of the picture, then he should not be here. Waste of wages and his time.
Jon Otesmobor is stretchered off at Carrow road today…last thing we need is another missing defender, John Kennedy and Gary Doherty are crocked, Dejan Stefanovic is banned and just this week Middlesbrough re-called laonee Jonathon Grounds as they struggle with injuries.

Roeder also left play-maker Wes Hoolahan out of the team today in a move that I can only think was designed to send the player a message after several sub-par performances. Something has to change for the better and soon. Our biggest demon right now is finding the net. Cureton and Lupoli were struggling so Sibierski arrived to help them out. Now Lita, and STILL we cant score from open play. if you told me at last year that we would have a front four of Sibierski, Lita, Lupoli and Cureton I would have told you to F@$* right off.

The situation at Norwich is extremely depressing and now we have a two week international break to spend pondering our dubious position, fourth from bottom. We need to get on a run and start finding the net soon or we will find ourselves in another relegation battle. No need to panic just yet though, the play-off spots are only five points away, but they were last season too… and we didn’t secure safety until the penultimate game of the season.

Norwich City have scored just 8 goals this season

Kim Jong-ChILLin’

Even dead men love football! The Best Propaganda Team on the Internet is reporting that North Korea’s Dear Leader (his words, not mine) has ended his month of seclusion to enjoy a spot o’ footie in Pyongyang.

North Korean media says Kim made his appearance at the derby match between Kim Il-Sung University, which was celebrating its 60th anniversary, and Pyongyang University of Railways. (Spoiler alert: the school named for Kim’s father, the “Great Leader” and very much dead “Eternal President” of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea won, 4-1.)

Announcement! Write-a-caption contest for the above photo. Winner gets a first edition UF t-shirt.

I’ll go first: “Dammit, sitting with the visiting support again. Oh well, I’ll have them liquidated at the half.”

Cheers Arsene, thats two weeks f*cked up for me!

I’m gonna be seriously fucked off for two weeks now and it’s all Arsene Wenger’s fault.

This result has left me even more pissed off than the defeat to Hull. We have to win games against sides like Sunderland or we can kiss the title goodbye.

Wengers tactics were wrong, AGAIN. We had an excellent win against the Portuguese champions on Tuesday so why try fixing what isn’t broken?

It’s not the first time it’s happened, in fact I’d go as far as saying that Wenger’s tactical know how is not his strong point.

After Hull City we played Porto almost straight away and that helped get the shock of that defeat out of our system. We don’t have that luxury again with the international break coming up so I hope the players and Le Boss brood over this game for the next two weeks. I know I will.

I really hope the result hurts the players as much as it hurts me. Because I am seriously pissed off right now and want to punch someone, hard in the face.

I fucking hope that when they come back from international duty they buck up their ideas and that includes Wenger too.

Keep it Goonerish………

FC Barcelona vs Athletico Madrid Preview

FC Barcelona would be gearing up for one of the most toughest matches of this season so far. The last weeks match at Espanyol may not have convinced too many critic niether did Barca’s victory against Shaktar. But the important fact here is we are winning and that was missing in last season. FC Barcelona has not yet full gelled as a team especially the defense. The defense looks like they are looking for a oppurtunity to fall apart. FC Barcelona would be hoping for a victory today even if it is a last gasp one. That would make it their sixth consecutive in all competition. The last three victory didn’t come that convincingly; the match against Athletico Madrid won’t be an easy one. Athletico always played well against FC barcelona at Camp Nou. Athletico’s last visit to Cam Nou resulted in a 3-0 loss; Pep would be hoping to take confidence from that fact.

This match has been billed as the clash of the two young Argentinian super kids - Lionel Messi and Ken Aguero. Both of them looks like in good form and it would be an exciting duel. But Pep attantion would be on a number of opposition players most importantly Maxi Rodriguez. At the moment when I am writing the review Pep has not yet announced his squad. With his pechant to change the starting eleven it becomes pretty difficult to guess what will be the team composition. One thing is for sure is that he would be returning to 4-3-3 formation. That should result in Alves, Puyol, Marquez and Abidal starting in front of Valdes. The midfield is rather intriguing - Xavi is the only certainity thare. I expect Busquets and Gudjonsen/Toure to start. Messi, Eto and Iniesta would definitely start up front. FC Barcelona cannot afford to rest in this match with the attacking power of Athletico Madrid. The only thing which I can guarantee is that there would be many goals.

My respect for Roy Keane (wheres the sick bag)

Roy Keane is a man that we Gooners love to hate. The rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester United when Keane was captain of the club was at it’s all time highest. There was nothing better than watching an Arsenal-Manchester United game with the two teams being led out by Keane and Vieira. It stood the hairs up on the back of your neck.

Why is it we hate Keane? It’s because he played for those shit fucks, Manchester United. When I look back I think it was more than just him playing for United though. I think there was a slight element of fear about Keane. Not that I think he’s hard but the fear that you know Vieira and co had to perform because players like Keane can hurt you.

Keane was a superb player and captain. I think he will become an even better manager. Le Boss says that Keane has the right ingredients to be successful and I totally agree with him. Keane has done a great job at Sunderland, and to be honest few could argue the fact Sunderland are the top dogs on the north east area. Keane has more than helped them achieve that.

As a player I thought Keane was a dick head, but I always had respect for him. How could you not? As a manager he seems a different person, almost to the point I think he’s had a personality transplant! I can actually bear him now but maybe that’s down to the fact the Manchester United tag isn’t attached at the moment. When he takes over United I’m sure I’ll hate him again.

There are plenty of ex-United players managing at the moment. Le Boss thinks that there will some ex-Gunners becoming gaffers in the future. I’d love Patrick Vieira to come back as Arsenal manager one day and renew hostility’s with Keane. Paddy has ruled out management though, mainly because he is lazy git! Paddy will probably open some football schools in Africa and I applaud him for that.

Who could I see becoming a manager? I always thought Dennis Bergkamp but to honest the flying issue he has rules him out becoming a boss. He would make a good assistant though. Tony Adams has made no secret of the fact he wants to be in the Arsenal hot seat one day. I think Adams is an Arsenal legend but I don’t agree with some of his methods. They baffle me at times.

A dark horse who could become a manager is Steve Bould. He has been doing some very impressive work behind the scenes in the Arsenal academy. He has the potential and is gaining experience all the time. What better example to follow than Arsene Wenger? I can’t find one. But in the future don’t be surprised to see a few ex-Gunners following in Keane and Co’s foot steps and dipping their toes in the world of management.

Keep it Goonerish……………..

CHELSEA LOOKS AT LUIS FABIANO FOR WINTER

English paper “The Times” has run the news that CHELSEA FC
coach Scolari has solicitated his boss Roman Abramovich that he
bring out the cheque book & make an effort this Winter for Brazilian
International & SEVILLA FC forward
LUIS FABIANO

This news has been picked up locally by “As” & they go on to
explain that the serious injury to Didier Drogba has left Chelsea
short up front, a worry that Scolari wishes to cover specially after

the failed Robinho attempt.

The figure being speculated is around 30M€, however Fabiano has
just renewed contract with Sevilla until 2011 & negotiating is going
to be difficult as Fabiano is a vital part of the Sevilla team. For now,
SFS thinks its wisefull thinking from Chelsea´s part & prefers to see
how things shape up in the Winter Transfer market season. Stay
tuned!

The ‘No Banker Left Behind Scheme’

“Let’s not waste $700bn on a bail-out, but use ‘big government’ for what it’s best at - shaping a society that is fair and peaceable.

“This current financial crisis is a major way-station on the way to the collapse of the American empire. The first important sign was 9/11, with the most heavily-armed nation in the world shown to be vulnerable to a handful of hijackers.

“And now, another sign: both major parties rushing to get an agreement to spend $700bn of taxpayers’ money to pour down the drain of huge financial institutions which are notable for two characteristics: incompetence and greed.

“There is a much better solution to the current financial crisis. But it requires discarding what has been conventional “wisdom” for too long: that government intervention in the economy (”big government”) must be avoided like the plague, because the “free market” will guide the economy towards growth and justice.

“Let’s face a historical truth: we have never had a “free market”, we have always had government intervention in the economy, and indeed that intervention has been welcomed by the captains of finance and industry. They had no quarrel with “big government” when it served their needs.

“It started way back, when the founding fathers met in Philadelphia in 1787 to draft the constitution. The first big bail-out was the decision of the new government to redeem for full value the almost worthless bonds held by speculators. And this role of big government, supporting the interests of the business classes, continued all through the nation’s history.

“The rationale for taking $700bn from the taxpayers to subsidise huge financial institutions is that somehow that wealth will trickle down to the people who need it. This has never worked.

“The alternative is simple and powerful. Take that huge sum of money and give it directly to the people who need it. Let the government declare a moratorium on foreclosures and give aid to homeowners to help them pay off their mortgages. Create a federal jobs programme to guarantee work to people who want and need jobs and for whom “the free market” has not come through.

“We have a historic and successful precedent. Roosevelt’s New Deal put millions of people to work, rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, and, defying the cries of “socialism”, established social security. That can be carried further, with “health security” - free health care - for all.

“All that will take more than $700bn. But the money is there. In the $600bn for the military budget, once we decide we will no longer be a war-making nation. And in the swollen bank accounts of the super-rich, by taxing vigorously both their income and their wealth.

“When the cry goes up, whether from Republicans or Democrats, that this must not be done because it is “big government”, the citizenry should just laugh. And then agitate and organise on behalf of what the Declaration of Independence promised: that it is the responsibility of government to ensure the equal right of all to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.

“Only such a bold approach can save the nation - not as an empire, but as a democracy.” - Howard Zinn.

Today, we were going to go for the ultimate lowdown on the bailout of the free market ideology.
But this should wait.
Optimism for a better future must always trump an ironic view of our present hyperreality.

Howard Zinn is one of the most important people on the planet.
His ” A People’s History of the United States from 1492 - Present” defines empire, scope of empire and longevity of empire via systemic linkage.
Indeed, his holistic approach to a Real historical narrative was good grounding for the holistic big picture overview approach of current hyperrealities that we utilise as part of our analyses of the corruptions in financial markets today.

People that were ground down under the expansion of capital are given a voice by Zinn, albeit an archived one, in the most important record of the impact, at a human level, of the non-sustainable exponential growth of this carcinogenic system.

A true rescue package was feasible.
Compare with all the stuff and nonsense that the psychopathic Paulson puts into play.
This socialising of the cost of capital could have paid for 15 years of universal healthcare in the hyperpower - our beacon of capital has 46 million individuals entirely without any medical cover )one in six of the population of the richest country on the planet).

Still, at least the bankers are healthy and wealthy…

Noam Chomsky: “In economist’s terms, risk is under-priced because systemic risk is not priced into decisions. That leads to repeated crises, naturally… The designers of the international economy sternly demand that the poor accept market discipline, but they ensure that they themselves are protected from its ravages, a useful arrangement that goes back to the origins of modern industrial capitalism.”
