RACING DE SANTANDER needed the points but failed as they allowed
SCHALKE 04 to come back & take the result to a 1-1 draw tonight.
Racing was at home & the Germans were attentive & waiting for their
moment. But after a tough struggle throughout the 1ºst half, in form
Racing forward TCHITE scored in the 59th min. However, the Spaniards
were thinking in the win too early & ENGELAAR equalized in the 63rd
min. That´s how this Group A match finished

SEVILLA are going through a rough patch & tonight was no different.
They lost away 1-0 to STANDARD LIEJA in their Group C clash.
The only goal came in the 37th min by M.BEZUA.
Real disappointing night & result for Sevilla who are not finding
the right moves to give them the chances they need to show their
true quality, real frustrating moments.

Real tough affair for VALENCIA CF tonight with a tough nut to
crack COPENHAGUE as visitors. After tussling all night with
close calls, veteran & experienced Valencia forward MORIENTES
put his team ahead in the 60th min after the Copenhague goalkeeper
fumbled.
It looked Valencia´s night when a terrible defensive mistake
allowed Copenhague player SANTIN to score the equalizer in the
84th min. Valencia will be kicking themselves to have let this Group
G clash go with a “stupid” mistake. Final result 1-1 draw

I’ve been calling for Johan Djourou to be given a start and he was finally rewarded last night. He gave a faultless performance too.
Fenerbache didn’t really show much ambition so Djourou wasn’t tested as much as he would be this weekend (if he plays) but he showed that despite not being in the game for long periods of time, he had the concentration levels to perform well.
He never gave the ball away, always looking comfortable with the ball at his feet. He dealt with the long balls that we have struggled to defend against in the past with ease.
He was calm throughout and has given Arsene Wenger a selection headache at the back for the visit of Manchester United on Saturday. This is a welcome selection headache I must add.
Djourou showed great strength too, shrugging off the imposing figure of Guiza with ease, we will need that strength on Saturday.
I’m glad that Johan was given this chance. He has been overlooked in the past for Song and I have discussed before that I feel Johan Djourou should be before Song in the pecking order in defence.
A clean sheet was a welcome boost for the big game on Saturday and Johan contributed to it, despite Fenerbache’s lack of ambition. I think he did well enough to start against United, whether he will or not is a different matter.

Spanish daily “Marca” has brought to our attention what they consider
one of the “Greatest Goals in History” (their words) if you take the
following circumstances into consideration
. the play, in the last minute & the winning goal (0-1)
. the playing field & its “terrible conditions”
. the beauty of execution

The player was ANTONIO TOMA ( above) a “leyend” in Maglia
(Italy - carreer in Regional Divisions). The goal was scored 15 years ago.
Have a look, you will not be disappointed & will agree it is a “piece of
Football art”:

The last moment penalty given against Atletico de Madrid which
allowed Liverpool to equalize in last Tuesday´s Champions League
Group qualifier is still giving us news & plenty to talk about.
It´s clear from the video that the penalty did not exist. If doubts
still continued, here is what the Swedish Referee Martin Hansson
said on Swedish TV “SVT Sport” & was picked up by the World Sport
Press (translated) : “From the position I was on the field, I´m not
convienced it was a penalty“
There you go folks…if things are to be done right, UEFA should
ban this referee for at least 3 games…but…
Spanish Sports daily “Sport” put in a little humour in their “Futbolitis”
cartoon section with Atletico de Madrid Coach Aguirre “voicing his
opinion”… (translated):
“To Platini I say XXXX & XXXX, XXXX, XXXX &…. plus XXXXXXXX
totally XXXX feedup”

I’m no expert in the science of body language but you wouldn’t need to be an expert looking at Cesc Fabregas last night. He looked totally frustrated and forlorn.
I’ve never seen Cesc look so down. His shoulders were slumped and he didn’t really seem up for it. I know that players have bad days and bad games but his performances haven’t been up to the standard of last season. And last night was his worst.
Maybe its just the fact he misses his mates Hleb, Senderos and Flamini. They were all very close off the field so perhaps Cesc needs to get over the fact they are not there anymore.
The teams plight certainly isn’t helping matters. Arsenal are lacking form and confidence and when that happens teams tend to look to their best player for inspiration. Fabregas is Arsenal’s best player but at the age of 21 that is too much pressure for him too handle. Hence the reason he isn’t captain.
There is no doubt that Fabregas is among the best midfielders in the world but even the best needs a solid partner to help. Last season he had Flamini as his side-kick and I’d argue that their partnership would have developed to be as good as the Vieira-Petit combination.
This season Denilson is his partner and I think that together they have struggled. Denilson is a good player but I don’t think that he is up to playing every week consistently yet. I think Denilson is a good stand by for Cesc at the moment and will be a great player in the future but Cesc needs more than he offers. Saying that I thought Denilson had a decent game last night.
I’m not saying that Cesc Fabregas wants to leave Arsenal, far from it, but I do feel he is becoming increasingly frustrated at the direction of the club at the moment. We had such a promising team last season and went desperately close to winning honours. He then wins the Euro’s with Spain only for Arsenal to be struggling this season. No wonder he is frustrated.

At the beginning of the season, we decided to set up a Project for our readers called Wisdom Of Crowds (WOC).
We should really have gone for Wisdom Of (Smallish) Crowds, for that is one of the Projects’ strengths, but we inflated our masses to attract the masses.
WOC has been very successful despite the attempted gaming of the process by an IlliteraTe one and a professional match-fixer!
Our grouping is unusual in several ways, and it was this design of template that guaranteed the success of the Project.
The total number of participants is just twenty, being split virtually 50:50 between professionals and amateurs. The reasons for this structure are varied but, among the angles that we are willing to share, a smaller grouping allows more personalised analysis rather than simple number crunching, and the equal split allows equal importance to the two sub-groups. Most pros hang around other pros; most amateurs hang around other amateurs. We have initiated an analytical discussion between these two parties.
Additionally, we are only choosing the most problematical matches analytically, ie the live televised Sky and Setanta English Premiership matches.

We are now approaching the completion of three months, and the leading participant following this weekend will receive a free three month subscription to Dietrological, our Football Information Provision Service.
The table below shows how things currently stand at the top of the table:
1. No 110: +38 9/13 +0.29
2. No 104: +44 11/16 +0.28
3. No 113: +11 3/4 +0.28
4. No 107: +40 13/19 +0.21
5. No 119: +22 10/15 +0.15
6. No 108: +20 16/24 +0.08
7. No 109: +18 14/22 +0.08
8. No 116: +19 14/24 +0.08
9. No 120: +15 18/30 +0.05
10. No 112: +10 16/29 +0.03
* More than 50% of participants are returning positive returns on investment (ROI) on their advices, and, from all the communications that I get, it would seem that you are all managing to utilise the benefits bestowed by having over 50% of the participants as industry professionals to improve your angles on events prior to the Kick Off.
* In comparison, leading tipster, footballtip, have achieved a ROI of +0.00 in the first three months of the season…
…And they don’t just focus on the analytically complex live televised games…
…And you don’t have to pay £85 per month for WOC.
* Our new database allows a further analytical complexity to be of value to WOC clients. Participants are able to, effectively, game the selection process by altering their stances in response to the attitudes of the other players.
This moves the strength of the database to new heights.
Interactivity is a feature not included in any other WOC-style project.
We expect to be able to trade the WOC model from next season, and we will do so with the full open source sharing of information with the participants.
And, this is the real power of the WOC Project.
We are open source.
I share analytical and atmospheric overviews with the other people, and they respond.
Together, we are building a powerful trading tool that should offer automated returns above 10% ROI in the new season.
The blinkered myopics who depend on secrecy, aliases, disguises, outright lies, crookery, patents and the law, really do not get it.
One pitiful person, desperately holding onto their alleged competitive advantage, is only ever able to tread water.
One open source grouping, happy to share new insights and exploratory angles, produces new knowledge and, by association, new profits.
Unfortunately, there are no available slots for new participants, and we have no intention of expanding the Project as the size is paramount.
The individuals who were prescient enough to become involved are receiving and will continue to receive ample returns on their open-mindedness and willingness to experiment.
As a final example of the value of WOC, as No 116 pointed out, last week 9 out of 10 professionals, who expressed an opinion, opposed Liverpool on the Asian Handicaps against Tottenham.
Spurs’ 2-1 victory was Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.
Mind you, we told Dietrological clients that the Liverpool v Atletico Madrid game on Tuesday exhibited “Strong rumours of an agreed draw” which, as hyperrealities turned out, proved rather prescient.
Penalty?
What penalty?
