OutKast’s version was far catchier, but it appears that an explosion in St. Petersburg this morning is threatening the Champions League Group Play match between Juventus and Zenit St. Petersburg. The Beebs states:
Reports suggested Tuesday’s game may be postponed after three people, including a child, died following an explosion in a taxi near the club’s training ground.
Sad. It is always difficult to determine whether “the game must go on” or not in situations like these, but I am sure Russia will somehow use it to their advantage.

The highest score goes to Mourinho’s team, who crushed Ranieri’s team in an impressive show of superiority. Well done also to Roma, Reggina, Fiorentina and Sampdoria. Lecce and Chievo are disappointing: they only deserve 4 points each in our post-match report
INTER 8.5 - The score, the highest of them all, has been awarded for the importance of success, which comes before performance. Because Inter hadn’t beaten Juventus at the San Siro since 2004 (with Zaccheroni). Because they crushed Ranieri’s team from start to finish, in an impressive show of physical superiority. And finally, because they’ve left Juventus 6 points behind them and Milan 3 points behind. They have started to surge ahead.
ROMA 8 - Their second consecutive win, which makes a nice change after such a terrible start to the season. In Lecce we saw Roma back in charge with three players finding the net. And Totti’s chip seemed to start them on the long journey towards that fourth place. Well done to Spalletti for changing the formation, albeit belatedly, getting rid of the outfield positions and playing with two up front.
REGGINA 8 - From bottom to third from bottom, they’re continuing their amazing climb back up the table, which is looking more and more like last year’s comeback. Orlandi was right on the mark, by putting Cozza on the wing, behind Brienza and the back-in-form Corradi. Atalanta were overwhelmed and Juventus, who host the winners on Saturday evening, have been warned. Woe betide anyone who underestimates this Reggina who are back in amazing form.
FIORENTINA 7.5 - They made up for a nightmare of a first half with a fantastic display in the second when they destroyed Udinese with 4 goals. Welcome back to Montolivo who silenced his critics with his actions, as champions do. But Fiorentina must now show more consistency.
SAMPDORIA 7.5 - Bellucci opened the scoring with an amazing goal, Cassano closed with his trademark brace and Sampdoria are finally on their way, or even better returning to the heights of last season, bagging their fourth home win in a row. Taking three goals from Catania, who were one of the best in defence, was no mean feat, bearing in mind that they also scored three against Lecce last week. And so congratulations to Mazzarri who had never lost faith in them.
CAGLIARI 7 - Twice they fell behind, and twice they managed to draw level. Well done to Conti, the heart of the team, who sealed the 2-2 draw in stoppage time. Well done to Allegri who always puts out a good team. But hats off to Cellino, who backed the coach after the first 5 defeats.
TORINO 7 - Refereeing decisions aside, congratulations to Torino who played like a beast, especially after they fell behind. At 1-2, in the second half, we saw an unbridled team, led by a formidable Dzemaili and glowing with the class of Rosina. Stopping Milan wasn’t easy and so the final score of 2-2 tasted almost as sweet as victory.
GENOA 6.5 - Firstly betrayed by the referee who disallowed a legitimate goal from Milito and then by Rubinho, of all people, who gave the draw to Lazio. But they played well and so Gasperini’s beautiful Genoa were not disgraced by the draw, and Milito meanwhile retains his 2 goal lead over Gilardino.
SIENA 6.5 - They secured their first away win at Chievo. Don’t be deceived by the two penalties converted by Galloppa and Maccarone in the last 7 minutes of the game. Their success was fully deserved and demonstrated the character of this new Siena, who have been quick to learn the lessons of Giampaolo.
UDINESE 6 - The score is the average of the 8 awarded for the first half and the 4 (like the goals conceded) for the second half. Confirmation of the huge potential of Udinese, who however failed to play with the consistency and conviction of the big teams.
LAZIO 6 - They struggled to regain their form after the derby defeat, allowing Genoa too much space. But if nothing else, they never gave up, and clinched a draw with a shot from Dabo, thanks also to the decisive help of Rubinho.
NAPOLI 6 - Their run of 10 home wins was broken in the most ridiculous way, allowing Conti to draw level in injury time. They paid for the mistakes made through inexperience, especially in defence, frustrating the progress made by the usual Hamsik and Lavezzi. But the fact remains that they’re in third place and fully deserve to be there.
PALERMO 6 - They started badly, but finished better by snatching the 1-1 draw in stoppage time. Thanks to the substitutions made by Ballardini, including his clever move of putting on Succi, the Bolognese player who denied Bologna a victory, and to the attitude of the team as a whole. And so the question is this: why didn’t Palermo play like this from the start?
BOLOGNA 5.5 - A taste of their own medicine. Having drawn level at home with Roma in stoppage time, they too were caught in stoppage time by Palermo, giving a final score of 1-1. And so Mihajlovic reaches his third 1-1 scoreline in a row. Meanwhile, Bologna slip down to second from bottom, displaced by Reggina, and deeply mourning the 2 failed attempts on goal by Di Vaio.
MILAN 5.5 - They went behind, struck by the goal from Stellone, but came back strongly with the 2 goals from the Brazilians Pato and Ronaldinho. But only to subsequently suffer under the pace of Torino who gave them the runaround. And leaving any arguments about the officials aside, Milan, the world champions, with their sights set on the scudetto, can’t just throw away two points like that, looking up at Inter from 3 points behind, when they should be breathing down their necks from 1 point behind, within reach of overtaking them.
JUVENTUS 5 - They lost badly against Inter, never managing to relieve the pressure. Two shots on target, from Marchisio and Del Piero, weren’t enough for a team who had won their last 5 games. But Juventus have already made one comeback and so it’s too soon to count them out of the fight for the scudetto.
ATALANTA 4.5 - A shuddering start on the pitch of the more motivated Reggina and bringing on the weakened Vieri was of no use, as he squandered the chance of a goal which could have reopened the game. There’s something hampering the team, especially away from home. And it would be a mistake to pretend that there’s nothing wrong.
CATANIA 4.5 - Zenga was right to see red, as yet again Catania immediately fell behind and you can’t always recover like you can at home. At Sampdoria they conceded their third defeat away from home, even though the 0-3 scoreline was only secured in the final moments.
CHIEVO 4 - Bottom again with 6 points, like the number of points separating them from salvation and the number of consecutive defeats. Whether with Iachini or Di Carlo, they’re still playing the same tune and it’s out of key, because when you lose 0-2 at home, even with two penalties, and your best player is the keeper, you’re in trouble.
LECCE 4 - OK, they were facing the new Roma on the rise, but Lecce lost in the worst possible way, kissing their home invincibility goodbye. For the second week running they conceded 3 goals and this is what must cause the amazing, blameless Beretta to stop and think.

Juventus managing director Jean-Claude Blanc has rejected links with Werder Bremen midfielder Diego.
The Brazilian international has regularly been linked with a switch to Turin, but no concrete move has ever been made.
There were reports in the Italian Press yesterday that Old Lady officials were in talks with Diego’s father, who is also his agent, but Blanc has played down the rumours.
“There is nothing going on with Diego right now,” Blanc insisted.
“The news that the player is set to move to Juventus is just the result of some brilliant work from agents.
“At the moment the market is closed and we are still weighing up whether there is a need to intervene or not.

Juventus gained a morale boosting 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico vs. Real Madrid. The goals came from Alex Del Piero and Amauri, and now Juventus sit on top of their group with 7 points. Fiorentina weren’t as lucky today.
La Viola suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena, and if they don’t start picking up points their dreams of qualifying for the knockout round will be over. More after the jump.

MILAN, Italy (AP) - Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ronaldinho each scored twice Sunday in Serie A wins for Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Inter beat AS Roma 4-0 to move two points clear atop the Serie A standings, and Milan defeated 10-man Sampdoria 3-0.
Inter improved to 16 points, two ahead of Udinese, Catania and Napoli. Milan is in a four-way tie with 13 points, and Roma has seven.
With Christian Panucci and Philippe Mexes both suspended, Roma’s makeshift central defensive pair of Simone Loria and Juan struggled to contain Ibrahimovic, who scored at the beginning of each half.
Dejan Stankovic and surprise starter Victor Obinna added goals for Inter in the 54th and 56th minutes at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Inter was devastating tonight. Every time they had the ball deep in our area, they scored. It’s one of the strongest teams in Europe and merits the utmost respect,” said Roma captain Francesco Totti, who made his first league start since undergoing knee surgery in April.
Milan had a man advantage from the 55th minute after Sampdoria defender Stefano Lucchini received a second yellow card for a handball inside the area. Ronaldinho converted the penalty and added another goal in the 66th on a give-and-go with Brazil teammate Kaka.
“Ronaldinho is working to improve his form and is again becoming a very important player,” Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “The game was clearly conditioned by the fact that they played with 10 men. Early on, we had the same difficulty holding onto the ball as in previous games, but the difference this time was that we kept our equilibrium and didn’t fall behind.”
Sampdoria came close to scoring in the 21st minute as Gennaro Delvecchio sent a bicycle kick just wide.
With the entry of Kaka at the start of the second half, Milan became more aggressive and began to take control of the game even before Sampdoria were reduced to 10 men. Kaka had been rested for the first half after recently arriving from Brazil, where he had been on international duty.
Filippo Inzaghi scored his first goal of the season in the 90th to make it 3-0.
Bologna, which had lost five straight after winning its first game of the season, stunned Lazio 3-1 with two goals from Marco Di Vaio. Bologna had scored only three goals in its first six games, but collected three in 26 minutes against Lazio, the co-league leaders coming into the weekend games.
“We started playing after 16 minutes, but at that point we were already down 2-0,” Lazio coach Delio Rossi lamented. “We didn’t play well, above all in the first half. It was an uphill battle the whole way.”
The victory may have saved Bologna coach Daniele Arrigoni his job. Italian newspapers had reported during the week that he was likely to be fired if Bologna lost its sixth straight match.
After the first goal, the Bologna players demonstrated their support, running to the bench to hug Arrigoni.
In the Sicilian derby, Catania defeated visiting Palermo 2-0 with two second-half goals. Catania has won its last six matches in Serie A and cup games at its Massimino stadium.
Cagliari needed a goal in the 88th from Robert Acquafresca to defeat Torino for its first victory of the new season.
Also Sunday, Chievo Verona drew 1-1 with Atalanta; Genoa beat Siena 1-0; and Lecce drew 2-2 with Udinese.
On Saturday, Napoli defeated Juventus 2-1 and Fiorentina beat Reggina 3-0.

Juventus are reportedly ready to table a January offer for Ivory Coast international Yaya Touré.
The 25-year-old is reportedly unhappy at Barcelona after a series of rows with Coach Josep Guardiola and could be keen for a fresh start.
Touré is a towering figure who plays a holding midfield role and could add much-needed substance in the middle of the park.
Juve are still searching for the answer to their midfield riddle and Danish powerhouse Christian Poulsen is yet to make his mark.
According to Tuttosport, Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco has approached TourĂ©’s agent with a five-year contract worth around ÂŁ3m per year.
Director Jean-Claude Blanc has admitted that the Old Lady will consider returning to the market in the New Year after a disappointing start to the season, but much depends on how Juve perform before Christmas.

They are tied for the lead of the Serie A after three rounds. Will it be a close race for the title? In the meantime, we analyse what works and what doesn’t for these two great rivals.
MILAN, 22 September 2008 - 22 November 2008. Mark this date on your calendars, if you haven’t already. It’s the day of the Inter-Juventus match, moved up due to both teams’ European competition schedules (Juve will play the following Tuesday). Yesterday afternoon they tied for the lead of the Serie A, but these two teams are fierce rivals. Will they be the title contenders? It’s still too soon to say; they have only played three rounds of the Serie A season; Roma, Milan and Fiorentina cannot be written off yet. In any case, it’s a real duel and a very interesting one. We have tried to analyse both squads and see what works and what doesn’t work for them, their strengths and their weaknesses. In the long run, the difference could be made by their participation in the Champions League.
DEFENSE - Buffon is a true pillar but when he had to pass the baton in Cagliari, injured, Manninger proved to be able to carry out the task without too much trouble. Julio CĂ©sar wasn’t less against Torino; at the end, he saved the day. In front of their goalkeeper, the remainder of the defensive line is a true reassurance for the squad. Juve have the best defensive line-up in the league, only letting in one goal so far, Gilardino’s. Chiellini is back and making a difference; Legrottaglie is stronger than ever; Mellberg has had a few slip-ups upon his debut as a Bianconero and De Ceglie is proving to be more than an alternative to Molinaro on the left side. Inter probably have better wingers, with pointers like Maicon (who was excellent yesterday) and Maxwell, without forgetting other options like Chivu. The midfield forms a strong barrier: Materazzi, Chivu, Burdisso and CĂłrdoba, who compete for the two available spots. Mourinho will have to be good in managing the turnover. Cambiasso has proven to be willing to play, if necessary, also as a midfielder.
MIDFIELD - Both midfield line-ups are very physical. Vieira, Muntari, Cambiasso and Zanetti on one hand (and even Stankovic, who was very close to signing with Juve this summer); Sissoko, Poulsen, Marchisio and Zanetti on the other. Both Mourinho and Ranieri can count on high-quality wingers. The Nerazzurri’s 4-3-3 counts on Mancini, Figo, Quaresma and Balotelli whereas the Bianconeri’s 4-4-2 relies on Camoranesi and Nedved (or Giovinco when he gets the chance) on the wings. Perhaps Inter have more options, although Juve have a “proletary” mentality, even for a big squad: it’s one more weapon. The potential minor issues include on one side Muntari’s indiscipline (who seems a regular recipient of red cards and has relapsed again) and on the other side, Zanetti’s physical form (missing the beginning of the season).
ATTACK - Inter have already scored 6 goals in 3 matches. Ibra can play; he’s been phenomenal. The others, they have their ups and downs. Adriano shows some promising signs; Crespo has been off the Champions League list. The “Special One” has lost “too many” options, especially if we consider Cruz. Juve have scored 3 goals in 3 matches. They have achieved the maximum results with minimum effort. But the scorers’ table this season is reassuring, with Del Piero and “Trezegol” in the lead. However, the Frenchman will be out of commission for 3-4 months. He will be replaced by Amauri, who can score and seems convincing. The captain always makes a difference. It’s a luxury to have players like Iaquinta and Giovinco (who has played very little so far) on the bench.
MANAGERS- And we couldn’t forget the managers, who coach so many stars and bring in added value to their squads. The winner is whoever makes less mistakes, whoever can hide the weaknesses and highlight the strengths. It may be the ever calm Ranieri or the perfect storm, Mourinho.
PRECEDENTS - Last year, Inter and Juve met 4 times between the Serie A and the Italian Cup. The outcome was one victory for the Bianconeri and one draw in the league, with the Nerazzurri winning the pass in the Cup. It looks like Juve don’t have an inferiority complex in individual matches, because of the character and the winning mentality of this resilient squad, whereas in a long-term competition, the Inter machine has a bit more cylinder power (more high-quality players). The first test will be on 23 November, during the 13th round of the Serie A.

TURIN, 17 September 2008 - Juventus won. And thanked Del Piero. A hard fought success against Zenit St Petersburg, in the Bianconeri’s seasonal debut in the group stage of the Champions League. This was already a crucial match, considering that Real Madrid is also in the group. Juve did not sparkle, quite the contrary, but against a tough opponent, which made life difficult for long periods of the match, they nonetheless showed that they know how to win even on a quiet evening, as great teams do. It took a flash of brilliance. Created by the most charismatic of players, the captain. These three points are very precious. As precious as Buffon’s save at 0-0, which averted disaster.
DEL PIERO - But Juve’s goal came however, a couple of minutes later. And it had the most distinguished signature: Del Piero. He scored from a free-kick, which took a slight deflection. 1-0. Him again, the captain, the driving force. He pushed the play button and resumed his endless Champions League film, stuck on pause for two seasons, but through no fault of his. Denisov tried to spoil the party, but his diagonal shot went wide. The Bianconeri fans could celebrate.
