Wayne Bridge on show at the City of Manchester Stadium before today’s game with Forest.
Wayne Bridge was unveiled to the fans before Manchester City’s shocking home defeat with Nottingham Forest today.
Bridge has signed for a fee of around 10 million pounds on a 4 and a half year deal from Chelsea. The signing is the first, of what is expected to be, numerous high profile acquisitions over the next month.
Man City lost to Forest 3-0 in an absolute shocker in Manchester today, as the Premier League’s (and maybe the World’s) richest side crashed out of the FA Cup to Nottingham Forest who currently sit 21st in the Coca Cola Championship. The three goals all came from Forest forwards. Nathan Tyson scored after 37 mins. Robert Earnshaw made it 2-0, 4 mins from half-time and youngster Joe Garner hit the third into Joe Harts bottom right corner on 74 mins. The loss will pile the pressure onto Mark Hughes who has his expensive City team just 2 points above the Premier League relegation zone. Today’s game was the first for Forest’s new manager Billy Davies and he saw his side win at Man City with just 31% of the possession.

And we are off. The great Manchester City spending spree is underway, after they agreed to a 12 million pound transfer with Spartak Laaandon for runner-up left back Wayne Bridge. But is Bridge worth that much? And how much will Manchester City be ripped off by, when all is said and done on Feb 2nd?
Manchester City are tying up the loose ends (physical, signatures, etc.) for Ashley Cole’s stand in (for club and country) making Wayne Bridge the best paid full back in old blighty. Take that Cole, you money grabbing douche! The deal is apparently worth 12 million to Chelsea and a whopping 21 million to Bridge, who looks as if he will be getting 5.2 million smackers a year. He WILL have to play though…Sucks for him!
Meanwhile it looks as if Chelsea are skint. Not only does Scolari have no money to spend but players are being sold without his say so.
“It’s better you ask Peter, because he knows everything that has happened. Wayne is here today, that’s what I know.” -Big Phil.
By Peter he means Peter Kenyon. Mouthpiece of bullshit and douche bag extraordinaire. But stop, forget Kenyon…What a turn up for the books this is. Chelsea have spent 650 million on transfer fees alone during the Roman Abrahmovic era, but now, is the cheque book is firmly closed? Has the oil dried up? Abrahmovic is certainly feeling the pinch of the current economic crisis. The Russian even cancelled his New Years Eve party in Aspen, Colorado. Good job eh?
So, Bridge is the first. Who’s next? Kaka? Eto? Alex? Ribery? Adriano? Owen? Given? Bellamy? Villa? Defoe? Silva? As I write this, Santa Cruz is planning his escape to the penthouse by claiming that City are set to sign him.
If you believe the papers then City are going to hit 3 figures this January and take over Chelsea’s title of the EPL’s (suck it Barclays) frivolous ‘big spenders’. But one thing is for sure. Everyone knows they have money and everyone knows they want to spend it. Bridge is no way worth 12 million and his elevated transfer fee will be the first of many. There is literally a heavy price that comes with all that cash. But as his pencil runs down the wanted list, I’m sure Mark Hughes won’t mind one little bit.

Christmas parties in Manchester sure are dangerous. What’s more disconcerting is why they picked Darius Vassell, something Mark Hughes hasn’t done in weeks. [BBC News]

According to English press & local daily “Sport” English Premier
League Club MANCHESTER CITY has it´s eyes set on Frenchman
& FC BARCELONA forward THIERRY HENRY for the “Winter”
Transfer season.

Manchester City feels Henry could give them the extra quality to
complement Robinho upfront & thus guarentee goals & the
result. Man City are still feeling the pain of it´s Premier League
defeat against Liverpool 2-3 after being 2-0 up at half time. They
believe a forward with Henry´s class could have given the team more
goals in such delicate moments.

Last Gasp Win At Manchester Means More Than Just 3 Points
English Premiership
Man City 2 -3 LIVERPOOL

Alright, let’s get it straight. It’s only October. The Premiership race is still a good 6 months before any conclusion can be made. Looking at the table, Liverpool fans must have been mighty pleased to see them joint top with Chelsea.
Well, things could have been so different. If there wasn’t Fernando Torres. If Dirk Kuyt still managed to miss the rebound. If Pablo Zabaleta escaped the sending off.
If Liverpool didn’t have the character and spirit.
Dirk Kuyt proves people wrong, including myself. Half the time, I admit, I was wondering why on earth is this player (I doubt even that) is still on the pitch with Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel on the bench?
When Torres pulled Liverpool level at 2-2, I was telling God ‘the last player I would want to have him score the winner is Kuyt.’ Just before Stephen Ireland stole the show and rammed in his 3rd of the season, Kuyt had a perfect chance to put Liverpool ahead.
But somehow, he scooped the shot high and wide from 5 yards out. In football, if you’re presented with a chance and does not take advantage of it, you’ll find yourself in deep mire soon after. That’s the Murphy’s law in football.
But somehow, he was right where he was to redeem himself and made countless of Liverpool fans leaping in the air, dancing in pubs and putting that very belief that we have been lacking, back in.
This season saw Liverpool off the block in double quick time yet it doesn’t tally with the performances we’ve put up. We’ve been awful at times. The first half and Man City was dire. With all the possessions, nothing. And then we got hit quickly with 2 goals.

No idea what Rafa and Sammy Lee said to the players at half time. I suspect something rousing. They came out, all cylinders firing. Torres with his usual goal-poaching ability, turned a Alvaro Arbeloa cross into the net before heading a Steven Gerrard corner for the equaliser.
Looking at how things have panned out, you really have got to wonder is this finally their year? After 19 years of desperate knocking on the door, have the door finally been opened to the Reds?
Sitting there watching us going 2-0 down makes my mind go ‘Ah, here we go again..’ All the good form and belief thrown out of the door. We’ve had such a good start but boy, back to reality again.
Yet that belief and feeling at the final whistle was something I haven’t had in my years of supporting Liverpool. To be fair, Liverpool were never in much contention for the throne for the past decade.
I really do sense something this time round. It’s as if things have clicked between Rafa Benitez and the players. He has brought the ‘Valencia mentality’ right to Liverpool. Real Madrid and Barcelona? No big deal, we play out football and we’ll win it eventually.
That’s the kind of belief right now, churning within the hearts of the Liverpool players, I believe. After such a significant win, they know they’ll have to be geared up for better performances and aim for consistency. It’s not a race but a marathon.
Luck have been on Liverpool’s side and over the years, we saw how teams who plays the best football doesn’t necessary equates to winner, the lucky ones do. Don’t want to sound over-confident at this moment because I know there’s a long way to go.
But since I see signs of a humble champion, so be it. Just pray so hard we don’t falter in the next game. That would be like an egg thrown in your face.

Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool
Oh, that was just gorgeous. Ok, not Liverpool going behind 2-0 by halftime, or Xabi Alonso practically having his ankle taken off by Zabaleta. (And seriously, what is it about him that encourages people into dangerous tackles?) But everything after that was great. And even before City were reduced to 10 men, Liverpool’s second-half performance was light-years removed from the way they’d played before the break. It wasn’t quite an Istanbul-style comeback, but a win like this is a hyge psychological boost. If they keep pulling off stuff like this, they just might have a chance at the title — assuming, that is, that being considered favourites doesn’t make them immediately collapse.
Blackburn 0-2 Manchester United
I said when United were trying to sign Dimitar Berbatov that I didn’t think it was a good idea, because he’s a lazy player. And he may indeed be lazy, but I don’t care anymore, because he’s turned out to be a fantastic addition to the team, not only scoring goals but creating opportunities for his teammates. The score was only 2-0 but it could’ve been more, even if Wes Brown hadn’t scored the opening goal with the help of a foul on the keeper by Nemanja Vidic.
Sunderland 1-1 Arsenal
Sunderland held Arsenal off for 85 minutes before Grant Leadbitter gave them the lead, coming on as a substitute and scoring a beautiful goal with practically his first touch of the game. It wasn’t enough to give them the victory, though, as Cesc Fabregas equalized in added time — with a header, of all things. This is especially noteworthy since (a) Cesc is roughly as tall as I am, which is to say, not very, and (b) he doesn’t even have poofy hair giving him a couple of extra inches anymore.
Chelsea 2-0 Aston Villa
With Drogba injured and Anelka not 100%, apparently Chelsea are copying the “who needs strikers” strategy that Man United pioneered last season. That’s nice for them. I was attempting to study for an economics quiz, so I wasn’t paying much attention, apart from noting that John Terry doesn’t really need to hike his shorts up that much. I’m just saying.
Other results
West Brom 1-0 Fulham
Wigan 0-1 Middlesbrough
West Ham 1-3 Bolton
Tottenham 0-1 Hull
Portsmouth 2-1 Stoke
Everton 2-2 Newcastle
Holy crap, I just realized that Hull are in third place. Hull.
